Another Shark Poacher in Galapagos Islands

The commercial fishing vessel “Reina del Cisne” (photo) , accompanied by two smaller fiberglass boats, was caught operating illegally inside the Galapagos Marine Reserve.

The Ecuadorian navy found 65 sharks and prohibited fishing gear ( longlines ) on board.

Because of these violations, the vessel was apprehended and escorted to San Cristóbal on September 17.

According to the obtained information, the “Reina del Cisne” and its 12 crew-members had left the port of Manta (Ecuador) on September 07 to carry out fishing activities.

Only two month ago, the Ecuadorian authorities detained another vessel (the‘Fer Mary I‘) for poaching sharks in the Marine Reserve of the Galapagos Islands ( see here ).
