Great White Shark caught in Tunisia – May 2018

This great white shark (Carchorodon carcharias) was caught as bycatch off the island of Djerba , located in the Gulf of Gabès in Tunisia. The catch was landed at the port of Zarzis in the morning of May 24th, 2018. The specimen reportedly weighed about 760 kg (1.676 lbs).

    Absolute waste of a fascinating creature in a sea where they are low on numbers 
    . Only positive to take from this is that they are evidently still there in the med . 
    Seems as tho the gws is making a small comeback as there have been a lot of sightings in the last few years , but then again who really knows how many gws are in the med as it’s a very large sea and they don’t exactly pop there heads out of the water to say hi .
    More worrying for me is the fact that the eastern Atlantic popolulation is no where to be seen and that I’ve never seen a report of a gws of the coast of portaguel, so if gws are visiting the U.K. than I can’t see where they would travel from , hence no great whites in U.K. waters
