Spain: 8 metres Basking shark landed in Alicante Province

Species: Basking shark (Cetrorhinus maximus)

Size: said to be 7,43 metres in length.

Sex: male

A record from the western Mediterranean Sea.
The specimen was caught accidentally by a commercial trawler about 16 miles off Punta d’Ifac (in a depth of 110 metres) near Calp, a coastal town located in the comarca of Marina Alta, in the province of Alicante. Tissue samples have been taken by experts from the University of Valencia. (Source: cadenaser)
