CMR certifies state record for Bull Shark

BILOXI, Miss. – The Mississippi Commission on Marine Resources certified a new state record for Bull Shark (Carcharhinus leucas) at its meeting Tuesday, July 18.

Brett Rutledge of Mobile, Ala., caught the 354-pound, 4-ounce shark on July 3, 2017 during the recent Mississippi Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo.

The previous record was a 203-pound shark caught in July 2016.

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources is dedicated to enhancing, protecting and conserving marine interests of the state by managing all marine life, public trust wetlands, adjacent uplands and waterfront areas to provide for the optimal commercial, recreational, educational and economic uses of these resources consistent with environmental concerns and social changes.
