A new study has been released on the south-western population of white sharks, which extends across Western Australia and South Australia.

The report examines the potential variations in the population that may have resulted from major changes in fishing effort that have occured since the late 1930s and the full protection of the species under State and Commonwealth legislation in 1997.

The report is one of several new initiatives to better understand white sharks in Western Australia and the likely effectiveness of any community safety actions.
