Man injured in shark attack – Lake Illawarra

Emergency services have responded to reports of a man who was attacked by a shark at Kiama this evening.

Shortly after 7pm today (Wednesday 30 March 2016) a 22-year-old Kiama Downs man was surfing in the ocean off the northern end of Bombo Beach.

The man has told police he was attacked in the water about 100 metres off shore but did not see the shark.

He was assisted to the beach by a friend and emergency services were contacted.

Police from Lake Illawarra Local Area Command responded along with Ambulance Paramedics who treated the man for leg and hand injuries.

An air ambulance conveyed the man to St George Hospital in a serious condition.
