SSACN Appoint Community Outreach Lead

SSACN_jan2015The Scottish Sea Angling Conservation Network are pleased to announce the appointment of Samantha Jane King as our Community Outreach Project Officer.

Our Outreach Project comprises ‘classroom’ based sessions and outdoor activities including inter-tidal zone ‘treasure hunts’, rock-pooling and an introduction to the basics of sea angling as these provide an excellent platform for learning about the marine environment and help to develop such skills as coordination, patience, critical thinking and social interaction.

The programme has proved very successful to date having introduced more than 2600 people of all ages, across a range of community groups, to sea angling, the marine environment and the various species of fish in their local waters.

Samantha has a BSc in Marine and Freshwater Biology and an MSc. in Coastal Management. She has been involved in marine educational activities with a wide range of organisations and has also volunteered her efforts in SSACN’s Sharkatag and Celebrating Scotland’s Sharks Events.

Looking forward to her new role Samantha said “From the first time I rock-pooled at Greenock’s Lunderston Bay I was captivated by the diversity of marine life that lives right on our doorstep; this role will give me the opportunity to help others have a better understanding how fascinating and fragile the marine environment can be.”

Samantha’s role will be to further develop our Outreach Programme and recruit additional community groups, schools, youth groups and other such organisations throughout Scotland to become self-sustaining SSACN Community Outreach Hubs

Any Organisation or Individual who would like to get involved in creating a Hub should contact Samantha at samantha.king@ssacn.org
