ABC News: Teenage Girl Attacked by Shark Off Coast of North Carolina

A 13-year-old girl was injured after a shark bit her and her boogie board today (Jun 11, 2015) in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, according to the town’s mayor. The teen suffered lacerations on her foot, but was not severely injured after the shark attack, which occurred around 12:40 p.m., Mayor Debbie Smith told ABC affiliate WWAY.

The shark was reported to be about four feet long, according to WWAY. It was not immediately clear what species the shark was and what the girl’s medical status was following the attack. The mayor said there are currently beach patrols monitoring the area, WWAY added. ( Source: ABC News )
