Western Australia Man bitten in reef shark incident

A man is being treated in hospital after being bitten by what is believed to be a reef shark.

It is understood that the Perth man was spearfishing with a friend at South Passage just south of Coral Bay when he was bitten on the hand.

The incident occurred about 2km offshore late this afternoon.

A St John Ambulance spokesperson said the man was picked up about 3.30pm and taken to Coral Bay nursing post, where he is undergoing treatment for his injury, which is believed to be minor.

“Department of Fisheries officers are working closely with rangers from the Department of Parks and Wildlife to investigate what happened,” the Department of Fisheries said in a statement released this evening.
