Beaches closed after shark bite reported at Mandurah
The Department of Fisheries is advising water users that beaches either side of the groyne at Pyramids Beach, Mandurah, have been closed by the City of Mandurah, following a shark bite reported to have occurred this morning.
The incident occurred just after 6am and was reported to Water Police at 7:45am.
Beaches are expected to remain closed for the next 24 hours.
A Department of Fisheries vessel is on site monitoring the area, and water users are urged to exercise extra caution in the vicinity and adhere to the beach closure.
A 13 year-old boy was surfing in the area when it is believed he was bitten on the leg, resulting in minor injuries.
The report was of a two metre shark, of unknown species.
Although the injuries are reported to be minor, beaches have been closed and measures are in place to inform beachgoers.
The Department of Fisheries will continue to monitor the situation.
Advice is that water users should:

- Report any shark sightings to Water Police on 9442 8600.
- Adhere to any beach closures advised by the City of Mandurah and Surf Life Saving WA.
