Results of two Shark Tournaments: the 2014 Mako Fever and Mako Mania in New Jersey

I have decided to summarize the results of the Mako Fever and Mako Mania tournament in a single post.
Most of the participating anglers entered both tournaments, which took place almost simultaneously in New Jersey (one event in Brielle and the other one in neighboring Point Pleasant).
The two fishing competitions were won by the same boat, the ‘American Mustang’.

2014 Jersey Coast Shark Anglers Tournament

The ‘Mako Fever’ is said to be the longest running shark tournament in New Jersey.
In its 36th year, the event drew 175 entries last weekend.
The entry fee was $400.00 per boat, per day and the competition offered $43,000 in prize money.

Results of the 29th Mako Mania Tournament
Loaction: Crystal Point Marina, Point Pleasant , New Jersey, USA
Date: 20. – 21. June 2014
A total of 304 boats participated in this year’s Mako Mania Tournament,
which is organized by the Greater Point Pleasant Charter Boat Captains Association.
The entry fee was $500.00 and a percentage of proceeds will be donated to artificial reef building.
The tournament had a total payout of over $240,000 divided among the six top-finishing crews.
According to local media reports,
at least 38 mako sharks were landed and brought to the weigh-in station.
35 makos made the 66-inch minimum length, while three specimens were short of that length.
