34th Annual South Jersey Shark Tournament
Location: South Jersey Marina, Cape May, New Jersey, USA.
Date: 04. to 07. June 2014 ( three days of fishing ).
A total of 97 boats entered in this year’s South Jersey Shark Tournament with an entry fee of $575 per participant. By popular demand, the tournament organiser has gone to a Captains Choice, fish 2 days out of 3 days format, no weather committee.
The total prize money of $323,273.00 was shared among several winners in eight different main categories.
But the two highest single payouts went to the team of the Relentless for landing the heaviest Mako shark of the competition. They earned the $105,750.00 prize of the ‘Big Money Mako’-Category and they also received an additional amount of $45,120.00 as winners of the ‘Mako Mania’-Category.
Catch Statistic:
The participating anglers caught 318 sharks during three days of fishing, of which 281 were released.
A total of 37 sharks were landed, of which 19 were officially weighed at the scale (see list below).
On the second fishing day, the team ‘Relentless’ came in with the largest Mako shark that was 338 pounds in weight. But the heaviest catch was a 654 pounds Thresher shark that was landed by the boat ‘Dumb and Dumber’ on the final (third) fishing day of the competition.
