First Skate Species Receives MSC Certification

Note by Shark Year Magazine : On 03. June 2014, the U.S. West Coast limited entry groundfish trawl fishery was awarded MSC certification as a sustainable and well-managed fishery, following an independent, scientific assessment and significant stakeholder involvement. The certification applies to 13 species, including the first MSC certified skate species: Longnose Skates (Raja rhina).

June 2014 —————– Shark bite victim flown from Palmyra Atoll to Oahu HONOLULU — The Coast Guard medically evacuated a woman after she was bitten by a shark near Palmyra Atoll, Sunday. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu received a call from the Palmyra research facility
