21. September 2013: A dead smalltooth sandtiger shark ( Odontaspis ferox ) was found on the beach of Pénestin which is a commune in the Morbihan department of Brittany in north-western France. The shark measured 3.24 metres in length and ca. 220 kg in weight. European records of this shark species are quite rare. In April 2013, a larger specimen was caught in Mediterranean waters off north-western Sicily ( see Specimen No. 34 in our related post here ).
