Shark attack victim flown to Perth for treatment

October 28, 2013

A woman who was attacked by a shark on Western Australia’s north-west coast is being flown to Perth for treatment.

The woman, believed to be aged in her 60s, is understood to have been attacked at Turquoise Bay near Exmouth this afternoon.

Royal Flying Doctor Service spokeswoman Joanne Hill says the woman has injuries to her right arm but is in a stable condition.

“With injuries to her right arm… they’re very severe injuries but luckily not life threatening,” Ms Hill said.

“She is in a stable condition but we’ll be flying her to Perth this evening and she’ll go to Royal Perth hospital.”

It is unclear what species of shark was involved in the attack.

Two years ago a Victorian tourist needed about 50 stitches to his arm after being attacked by a shark while snorkelling at Exmouth.
