Our research divers from the Tequesta Lab were off the coast of Jupiter, Florida when they caught a Caribbean Reef Shark on camera resting in a reef formation. Although Caribbean reef sharks are found near reefs in southern Florida, surveys using long-line gear off the east coast of Florida reveal that Caribbean reef sharks are extremely rare north of the Florida Keys (Jupiter, Florida is 130+ miles north of the Florida Keys). The Caribbean Reef Shark (Carcharhinus perezii) is a Protected (Prohibited) Species in Florida.
