Dead Basking Shark in Italy – January 2013

In January 2013, a 6 metres long basking shark (Cetorhinus maximus) was found stranded in Mola di Bari, a coastal town in the Southern Italian region of Apulia. Simona Clò examined the specimen and took tissue samples for ‘Operation Basking Shark ‘ (Operazione Squalo Elefante, www.squaloelefante.it).
