Algerian fishermen land 5,6 m basking shark

This basking shark ( Cetorhinus maximus ) was caught in a fishing net near Pointe Rouge, about 23 km west of Ténès in Algeria. The specimen measured 5,60 metres in length and about 830 kg in weight. Unfortunately, the uploader of this footage does not mention when the catch occurred ( video uploaded on 24.03.2013 ).

In December 2012, another basking shark (approx. 7,5 m long) was landed in the Algerian town of Tigzirt ( see Specimen No. 5  HERE ).
