Man killed in shark attack at Left Hander’s Beach near Gracetown
A MAN has been killed in a possible shark attack in the state’s South West.
Police and St John Ambulance were called to Left Handers beach, near Gracetown, shortly after 9am following reports of a shark attack.
A spokesman for WA Police said officers arrived at the beach, near the carpark at the end of Left Handers Road, to find a man deceased.
He said inquiries were continuing into the circumstances surrounding his death and the report of a shark attack.
The Department of Fisheries has been advised and will also investigate the incident.
The attack comes six weeks after abalone fisherman Greg Pickering survived a shark attack, 180 kms east of Esperance, on the state’s southern coast.
Today’s death is the first fatal shark attack in WA in 2013.
Father-of-two Nick Edwards, 31, died in August 2010 after being attacked by a shark at nearby South Point in Gracetown.
