Shark bites fisherman off Northern Chile

A fisherman from Peru was bitten by a shark while operating illegally in Chilean waters.

According to Publimetro, the provoked shark bite incident occurred on March 1st off the shores of Antofagasta which is located about 1,130 km north of Santiago.

The victim suffered injuries to his right hand and is being treated for a severe infection at Regional Hospital of Antofagasta.

He has been identified as Paye León Salomón, who is a resident of the city of Moquegua in Peru.

The fisherman was accompanied by two fellow countrymen at the time of his arrest by the Chilean Navy.
