Date: 17. March 2012.

Location:  Province of La Spezia, Liguria, Italy.

Species: Common thresher shark ( Alopias vulpinus ).

Size: said to be 3 metres in length, 300 kg in weight.

The specimen was accidentally caught in the southern part of the Gulf of La Spezia
( also known as the Poets’ Gulf ). This gulf is located in the coastal region of Liguria,
which is bordered by France to the west and Tuscany to the east.
The commercial fisherman Riccardo D’Amico found the shark (already dead)
in his ‘trammel net’ off Tellaro, a small village on the east coast of the gulf.
He towed his unusual catch to the harbor of Lerici.
