Landing of Sharks and Rays

In October 2011, the estimated total landing of sharks and rays was reported to be 572.08 tons.
It represents a decrease of ca. 67.43% in comparison to the previous month (Sept 2011).

ECUADOR  – Total estimated landings (t) by species – October 2011 :

SHARKS:

Pelagic thresher shark (Alopias pelagicus) = 393.71 t  (68.82 %)

Blue shark (Prionace glauca) = 79.93 t  (13.97%)

Silky shark (Carcharhinus falciformis) = 25.33 t  (4.43%)

Smooth hammerhead (Sphyrna zygaena) = 18.18 t  (3.18%)

Shortfin mako shark (Isurus oxyrinchus) = 14.96 t  (2.62%)

Scalloped hammerhead (Sphyrna lewini) = 12.43 t  (2.17%)

Bigeye thresher shark (Alopias superciliosus) = 5.02 t  (0.88%)

Pacific Angelshark (Squatina californica) = 0.67 t  (0.12%)

Hammerhead shark (Sphyrna spp.) = 0.11 t  (0.02%)

RAYS:

Longtail stingray (Dasyatis longa) = 10.23 t  (1.79%)

Sharpnose stingray (Dasyatis acutirostra) = 4.68 t  (0.82%)

Manta (Mobula spp.) = 4.02 t  (0.70%)

Spotted eagle ray (Aetobatus narinari) = 2.03 t  (0.35%)

Japanese Devilray (Mobula japanica) = 0.50 t  (0.09%)

Whitenose Guitarfish (Rhinobatos leucorhynchus) = 0.21 t  (0.04%)

California Butterfly Ray (Gymnura marmorata) = 0.07 t  (0.01%)

TOTAL=  572,08 tons (100%)
