JUPITER, Fla. –

A 6-year-old boy who was bitten by a shark Tuesday was upgraded from serious to good condition on Wednesday, WPBF 25 News has learned.

Police said the boy was in the water at Jupiter Beach with his father when a shark bit his upper thigh.

He was flown by helicopter to St. Mary’s Medical Center and was listed in serious condition. But WPBF 25 News’ Terri Parker confirmed that the boy’s condition had improved by noon on Wednesday.

A church group was swimming just a short distance down the beach when the attack happened. They said they heard the Trauma Hawk helicopter landing and walked over to see what was going on.

“We couldn’t really tell where he was bit,” Wendy Ocean said. “When you see the blood, you kind of look away,”

Another member of the church group, who did not want to be identified, said she saw the shark about 100 yards off of the shore. She said that was right before she heard about the attack.
