Thresher Shark caught in Canary Islands

Date: reported on 22. August 2011.

Location: Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain.

Species: Thresher shark (Alopias vulpinus).

Size: said to be 4 metres in length.

The shark was captured relatively close to shore

at Porís de Abona in the municipality of Arico.

Update Aug 23 :

The Arico City Council say that the thresher shark was found dead in ‘offshore’ waters about a month ago on July 22 ( not caught recently ).
