Sixgill Sharks caught in Turkey

Two recent records of Sixgill sharks from Turkey.

1st Specimen:

Date: reported on 06. December 2011.

Location: Karabiga, Biga District, Çanakkale Province, Turkey.

Species: Bluntnose sixgill shark ( Hexanchus griseus ).

Size: said to be 3 metres in length, 200 kg.

The specimen was caught in a fishing net in the Sea of Marmara.

2nd Specimen:

Date: reported on 06. December 2011.

Location: Yeniköy, Sarıyer District of Istanbul, Turkey.

Species: Bluntnose sixgill shark ( Hexanchus griseus ).

Size: said to be 3.5 metres in length, 400 kg.

Yeniköy is located on the European shores of the Bosporus Strait.
