Sixgill Sharks caught in Spain

Date: reported on 06 July 2011.
Location: Spain (Mediterranean Sea).

A fisherman from Begur, a town in the province of Girona, made an impressive catch when he hauled up a big bluntnose sixgill shark (Hexanchus griseus).

But the Spanish media has wrongly identified the shark as a basking shark (‘tiburon peregrino’ ).

According to the lifelong fisherman Ramón, several specimens of this shark species have been caught in recent days.

You can see a video showing photos of the shark at antena3.com (HERE).

The video will start after a short commercial clip.
