Shark shows interest in Sailing Yacht
Helmut Nickel, Shark Year Magazine, 08. November 2011‘Pretty amazing !’ This is how Stéphanie Alran, co-skipper of the ‘Phoenix Europe Express’ currently competing in the Transat Jacques Vabre race, describes her encounter with a shark.
The sailor said: ‘I heard a noise behind the boat and I saw the hydro-generator moving. I wondered what it was. I looked behind and there was a shark fin.’
The incident caused more fear than harm for the two crew members, consisting of Stéphanie Alran and Jean-Edouard Criquioche.
‘I thought I was dreaming. The shark returned to attack the hydro-generator. There are even teeth marks. This is the first time that I have seen a shark in real life’, said Stéphanie.
But the boat was not damaged and was able to continue its voyage to Puerto Limon in Costa Rica, the final destination of the race.
