On August 1, lifeguards have found the shark-bitten body of 14-year-old Gabriel Alves dos Santos who went missing while swimming at Pina beach on July 31. The boy disappeared near the site where his body was found.

On the day of his disappearance, the fire department filed this incident as drowning.

But after the recovery of the body, they did not rule out the possibility of a shark attack because of the bite marks. It is said that the victim’s arms and legs were bitten off.

One month before (June 29), a surfer was attacked by a shark at the exact same location. He survived with a major injury to his leg.

The badly mutilated body was taken to the Institute of Legal Medicine (IML) to determine the cause of death. But the result of the autopsy, conducted by Dr. Batista, could not confirm the cause of death due to the advanced state of decomposition.
