‘People’s Daily Online’ is reporting that a whale shark (Rhincodon typus) nicknamed Yang Yang was displayed in China on September 11.

The 6 metres long specimen with a weight of 2 tons had been preserved through plastination, a technique that replaces body fluids with plastics.

The event took place on a shopping street in Dalian, in the south of Liaoning province.

It was free to the public and its aim was to educate people about the marine creature and to raise awareness for the importance of protecting the ecological environment.
