New record of a Sixgill Shark from Turkey

Date: reported on 14. November 2011.

Location: Bursa Province, Turkey.

Species: Bluntnose sixgill shark ( Hexanchus griseus ).

Size: said to be 3,20 metres in length and 312 kg in weight.

The specimen was caught in a fishing net in the Sea of Marmara ( ‘Karacabey Strait’ )

and will be given to the University of Istanbul for research purposes.
