Guitarfish caught in Turkey

Location: Bodrum, Muğla Province, Turkey.

Species: Guitarfish (Rhinobatos spp.), male.

Size: said to be 140 cm in length, 10 kg.

The specimen was caught in the waters near Bodrum,

a port city in the southwestern Aegean Region of Turkey.

Two species of guitarfish occur in the Mediterranean Sea:

the common guitarfish (Rhinobatos rhinobatos) and the

blackchin guitarfish (Rhinobatos cemiculus).

Both species are currently classified as ‘endangered’ by

the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
