Big Hammerhead Shark caught near Gibraltar Strait

           but already caught on 1st August 2011.

Location: Ceuta, Spain.

Species: Smooth hammerhead shark (Sphyrna zygaena).

Size: said to be over 3 metres in length, ca. 300 kg.

Ceuta is an autonomous city of Spain located on the north-west coast of

Northern Africa, surrounded by Morocco.

It lies on the border of the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean (map).

The shark got trapped in the almadraba (a special system of set nets)

of commercial tuna fishermen, about 600 metres off Playas del Chorrillo.
