Basking shark spotted in Belgian waters

According to the ‘Management Unit of the North Sea Mathematical Models’ (MUMM), a basking shark (Cetorhinus maximus) was recently spotted in the southern North Sea, off the Belgian coast.

The sighting has been made by a surveillance helicopter on Friday October 21st. A MUMM operator was also on board.

They observed the shark about 50 km from the shore, north of the Bligh bank.

Another source (RTBF) is reporting that the basking shark was approximately three metres long.
