Summer is only around the corner, but Queenslanders are on high alert after a record-breaking tiger shark was caught off Main Beach on the Gold Coast yesterday.

Measuring 3.8 metres and tipping the scales at a massive 470 kilograms, the shark was hooked when it bit a metre-long hammerhead shark in half which had already been caught on a fisherman’s line.

The Shark was caught just 500 metres off the beach.

Some of its remains are expected to be used for scientific research.
