Japan: 4 metres long Tiger shark caught during Yaeyama Shark Cull

The video was uploaded by the ‘Okinawa Times official video channel’ on 30. July 2015.

It shows the landing of a 4 metres long tiger shark ( estimated 550 kg in weight ) which is one of the largest of the 88 sharks caught during this year’s annual shark cull in Yaeyama, an archipelago in the southwest of Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. The female specimen was pregnant ( with 18 pups ) and had the remains (skull) of a dolphin in its stomach.

The two-days fishing operation was conducted by the Yaeyama Fisheries Cooperative and under scientific supervision on 24th – 25th July 2015. After the scientific examination, the shark’s meat and fins were sold to dealers on the main island of Okinawa.
