KARACHI: Fishermen dragged a 16-18 foot female whale-shark onto the Karachi Fish Harbour on Wednesday, Express News reported. The fishermen claimed that the shark got caught in their net accidentally and they dragged it to shore but a World Wildlife Federation (WWF) spokesperson said that the shark was killed. Whale sharks are highly valued on international markets and demand for their meat, fins and oil remains a threat to the species, according to the WWF website. The species face a high risk of extinction in the wild. Restrictions should be imposed on killing these animals, the WWF spokesperson told Express News ( published by ‘The Express Tribune’ March 26, 2014 ).
