California Anglers catch 11 foot shortfin mako shark

On 17 July 2011, four fishermen from Orange County took the lead in this year’s Channel Islands Mako Shark Tournament by catching a huge shortfin mako (Isurus oxyrinchus) near Oxnard.
The specimen measured 11 feet long and weighed in at 860 pounds.
The team, captained by Chad Compton of La Mirada, reeled in the big shark in just over an hour.
