NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) — A police spokeswoman in the Bahamas says a New York man is recovering after being bitten by a shark while visiting the island chain.

Inspector Chrislyn Skippings of the Royal Bahamas Police Force says the visitor was fishing on the island of Eleuthera when he was bitten on the left leg. The 50-year-old from Rochester, New York, went to a local clinic on his own and was airlifted to a hospital in the capital of Nassau for treatment. He was listed in stable condition Friday.

The attack occurred on Thursday in the Savannah Sound, where fishermen wade in several feet of water to go bone fishing. The area is known to have bull and tiger sharks, though attacks on humans are rare.

I’m from New York too….all my life…but ilved to Honolulu Hawaii 3+a half years ago to stidy sharks….but im now realizing i will have much better luck studying sharks in Florida and especially the Bahama islands….where there are many more sharks there then in Hawaii. Believe it or not…its true because there isn’t enough fish life in abundance in Hawaii…due to the state of Hawaii laws that totally ALLOW OVER-FISHING….THEREFORE “LESS SHARKS” TOO!!! I fish on the beachshore of Waikiki Beach alot and let me tell you….if u catch even one single fish all morning…you consider yourself lucky and that you had a “good morning of fishing”!! And you’ll NEVER EVER catch a shark off the shoreline here….but you KNOW THAT YOU KNOW THAT YOU KNOW YOU’LL CATCH PLENTY OF FISH AND SHARKS TOO….OFF THE FLORIDA BEACH SHORELINES AND BAHAMA ISLANDS……..FOR SURE!!!!!!!
