Three Recent Shark Records from the Eastern Mediterranean Sea

Specimen No. 1 :

Date: reported on 23. February 2012.

Location: Israel.

Species: Shortfin mako shark ( Isurus oxyrinchus ).

Size: said to be ca. 3 metres in length.

The specimen got entangled in a fishing net off the coast of Acre in northern Israel.

Specimen No. 2 :

Date: 17. February 2012.

Location: Canakkale Strait, Turkey.

Species: Bluntnose sixgill shark ( Hexanchus griseus ).

Size: said to be 4 metres in length and 520 kg in weight.

The specimen was caught by anchovy fishermen in the waters of the Dardanelles
and brought to a fishmonger in Bursa.

Date: reported on 12. January 2012.

Location: Şarköy, Tekirdağ Province, Turkey.

Species: Bluntnose sixgill shark ( Hexanchus griseus ).

Size: said to be 327 cm in length and 291 kg in weight.

    Thats just sick. how can people stand living with themselves knowing that they are slowly killing the things that the love to catch!! have A heart and let them go. takes a picture it lasts longer. if you dont stop catching and killing, eventually there will none to catch
