Do you realize your competition is contributing to the mindless slaughter of these beautiful animals to the brink of extinction! It is public knowledge that sharks numbers are in massive decline with some professionals saying 100 million sharks slaughtered each year. At this rate it won’t be long before many species of the apex predator are gone forever. Every shark counts! Please! Let your conscience dictate that this competition has been held for the last time. A 167.8 kg mako shark murdered for sporting pleasure….CRIMINAL.
Beautiful creature, ugly ending. U lot should be ashamed, these creatures ur hunting are dropping in numbers year after year and when they’re gone we can all say u played ur part! Take up a different sport u heartless murdering oxygen theives!

I thought that in Tasmania you people would know better than to hunt animals for pleasure adter what happened to the Thylacine, perhaps you all have short memories or simply don’t care. This is a disgusting display of cruelty.
PLEASE STOP DOING THIS!! You are SOOOOOOOOO misguided if you think you’re not doing anything wrong. Destroying sharks destroys the oceans; destroying the oceans destroys life on earth as we know it – PERIOD. Get yourselves educated on this issue, you mindless, pointless bunch of idiots. I hate the fact that I have to share this beautiful planet with people like you :-((((((
I can only assume these “men” or “the boys” do not have family with children & care not about the futures of these children nor that of future society, as it is their right to contest & compete & take part in recreational sport fishing within the realms of the law – the law is all you are required to abide by – only if their homes were invaded & they accidentally killed the invader by protecting themselves & were then charged with murder or manslaughter, then they may realise that law & moral law & logic are indeed to be considered with respect too and for each other. All of us can only be either part of the problem or part of the solution. I ask that the club & the fisherman either properly research this “global shark issue” of which short-fin Mako’s fall into, or, make contact with shark scientists of CSIRO & JCU at the earliest possible convenience. – Thank You for your understanding fellas, sorry our predecessors stuffed it for us. 🙁
