Dr Shelley Clarke talks to the Shark Alliance about her research on the fin trade. Shelley Clarke, a fisheries scientist based in Japan, received her doctorate in quantitative fisheries science from Imperial College London in 2003 for her ground-breaking study of the shark fin trade. She explains how many sharks are traded for their fins, how this information was gathered, the role of EU fleets (particularly Spain), and trends in the market. She concludes by explaining the impact of finning bans and the best methods for enforcing them.
