Fox Sharks caught in the Mediterranean Sea

Three recent records of thresher sharks from the Mediterranean Sea.

Specimen No. 1:

Date: 14. December 2011.
Location: Guardamar del Segura, Province of Alicante, Spain.
Species: Common thresher shark (Alopias vulpinus), male.
Size: said to be 4 metres in length, ca. 220 kg.
Two fishermen, Manuel Zaragoza and his son Christian, caught this specimen just one mile from shore.
According to the source, the shark was sold for 3 Euro per kilo (ca. 3,90 US-Dollar / kg) at the auction in Santa Pola.

Specimen No. 2 :

Date: 23. December 2011.
Location:  Badalona, Province of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain.
Species: Common thresher shark (Alopias vulpinus), male.
Size: reported to be over 300 kg in weight.
The shark was caught in the net of the fisherman Pepe Costa in the waters off Badalona.

Specimen No. 3 :

Date: 1st January 2012.
Location: Foça, Izmir Province, Turkey
Species: Common thresher shark (Alopias vulpinus).
Size: said to be 4 metres in length, and over 150 kg in weight.
A record from the Aegean Sea. The shark got entangled in a fishing net in the Gulf of Izmir.
