Great White Shark caught in New South Wales Australia

Four-metre great white shark netted off Bar Beach

A DEAD four-metre great white shark was found in the Bar Beach shark nets yesterday morning.

A Department of Primary Industries spokesman said the shark was towed to the Newcastle Fisherman’s Co-Op at Wickham because it was beyond the lifting capacity of the commercial contractor’s vessel.

It was then transported to the Port Stephens Fisheries Research Centre.

“We saw commotion down near the co-op and some people went out to have a look,” said Joanne Murray, who works nearby.

“There was a pilot boat, about three metres long, that towed the shark. It was so big it couldn’t fit in the boat.”

Ms Murray sent The Herald the photo that appears with this story.

The Department of Primary Industries spokesman said that great white sharks were a threatened species and the dead shark would be analysed for scientific research purposes.

The spokesman said the NSW shark-meshing program aimed to reduce the risk of shark attack on some of the state’s most popular beaches.

“The nets are not set as a barrier, but rather as a technique that deters dangerous sharks from establishing a territory and reduces the risk to swimmers,” he said.

“This program is very successful.”

This program is very successful? In doing what?! Killing inoccent animals that have been here millions of years before us just because we like to claim everything as OUR territory?!

    F**K that

Ryan, there is a mentality that is know as Speciesism. That human life is worth more than an animal life. I am sure a Lion believes a Lions life is worth more than a Gazelles. I think it comes from the Christian up bringings. Genisis 1:26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
Or in the words of Jeremy Clarkson “I believe animals have rights; the right to be on my plate at dinner time”. I think it’s a great attitude.

I am appalled at this story, the sea is their territory and we should respect that.  I am a scuba diver and have nothing but respect for sharks ( all types). Please let them live without fear – we know the risks when entering the water, thse nets are barbaric!!!
