Basking Shark caught in Portugal

Date: 22. December 2011.

Location: Cascais, Portugal.

Species: Basking shark ( Cetorhinus maximus ).

Size: reported to be 3 metres in length.

The specimen was found already dead in a fishing net off the Estoril coast.

The accidental capture took place near Cascais, a seaside town about 30 km

west of Portugal’s capital city Lisbon.
